CATARINA MADEIRA

About

She completed two master's degrees at the Lemmensinstituut (LUCA School of Arts, Belgium), in Piano Performance and Chamber Music, under the guidance of pianist Sylvia Thereza. Her training also includes studies at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe (Germany), with Michael Uhde, and at the University of Évora, with Ana Telles. She also attended the Aquiles Delle Vigne International Academy of Music, where she worked with Manuel Araújo.

She has also worked with internationally renowned musicians such as Sara Davis Buechner, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Kyoko Hashimoto, Makoto Ueno, and Julien Libeer.

In 2025, Catarina conceived and coordinated the festival "The Piano in Sound Discourse" in Portugal, bringing together teachers, students, and audiences for masterclasses and concerts dedicated to the piano.

Alongside her work in classical music, she writes and performs her own songs, exploring an intimate and personal musical language. To date, she has released three original songs, available on all digital platforms.

She has performed as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles, and with orchestras in Portugal, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, and Spain, collaborating with the Orquestra Clássica do Centro, the Orquestra Esproarte, and the Gil Teixeira Lopes String Quartet.

Together with pianist Felipe Novellino, she forms the Madeira/Novellino Duo, dedicated to the repertoire for piano four hands and two pianos, and regularly performing across Europe.

Their collaboration has been recognised with several awards, including 2nd Prize at the Prof. Dichler Competition 2022 in Vienna, and 2nd Prize at the VII Sardoal Young Talent Award, where they also received the Best Portuguese Duo Prize.

Catarina Madeira is a Portuguese pianist and singer-songwriter who develops a career in both classical music and the creation of original songs for voice and piano.

Her artistic work combines the depth of classical training with influences from indie pop, rock, jazz, and Portuguese folk music.
